Bhubaneswar: A 27-year-old female teacher was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
The deceased, identified as Sanjana Mistry, was married to Anupam Chand. Sanjana was employed as an assistant teacher in a government high school.
On Sunday morning, Sanjana was found hanging in her bedroom at Umerkote. Police have sent the body
for post-mortem.
Following a complaint of foul play by Sanjana’s father Pravash Kumar Mistry, Umerkote police registered a case and detained her husband for questioning.
Sanjana’s family alleged that she was killed over dowry. However, Anupam’s relatives maintained that Sanjana died by suicide.
Sanjana got married to Anupam, the younger son of businessman Kabul Chand, in July 2024.
Anupam’s family members, including his father, mother and elder brother, were allegedly torturing Sanjana as her father couldn’t provide a car as dowry during their wedding ceremony.
Sanjana had reportedly informed her parents about the harassment a few days ago and wanted to return to their home in Raighar.
Police investigation is underway to ascertain what exactly led to her death.
