Female Teacher’s Punch Lands Class VI Boy In Hospital In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Kamakhyanagar: A Class VI student sustained critical injuries after a female teacher allegedly punched at him in the chest at Kamakhyanagar in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Wednesday.

The boy has been identified as Ganapati Mahanta, a student of Kankadahad Upper Primary School.

According to sources, the accused teacher punched Ganapati on his chest when the school prayer was on, following which, he fell down and complained of excruciating pain. “I got a call barely fifteen minutes after dropping him at the school and authorities asked me to take him back home, saying that he was unwell. On reaching, I found my son weeping and in an extremely traumatised state. I was told that he had been hit hard in the chest by one of the teachers who was checking nails of the students during the morning assembly,” Ganapati’s mother told the media.

She then rushed him to the health facility at Kankadahad, where doctors referred him Kamakhyanagar hospital for treatment as his condition deteriorated. It also being alleged that the school authorities refused to help the mother to take the child to hospital.

Block education officer (BEO) Sagar Tudu said they will visit the school and investigate the incident. He also assured appropriate action against those found guilty.

Notably, Odisha banned corporal punishment in schools in 2004.
