New Delhi: With the festive season round the corner, the Central government on Thursday sought to warn people about the threat that coronavirus still poses in our country by clamping strict restrictions.
Government officials said that mass gatherings should be discouraged in all states, but if attending it is essential, then full vaccination is a prerequisite.
Urging people to get inoculated and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour, especially during the festive season, the government warned that the second wave of COVID-91 pandemic was not yet over despite the weekly positivity rate showing a declining trend.
“People should celebrate festivals at home, follow COVID-appropriate behaviour and embrace vaccination,” the government said.
Officials informed that 39 districts in the country reported over 10% weekly COVID positivity rate while in 38 districts it was between 5% and 10% during the week which ended on August 31.
As for vaccine coverage, 16% of India’s adult population have received both doses while 54% have been administered at least one dose.
