Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested the fifth accused involved in the murder of Ollywood music director Sumanta Mohanty on October 10, 2008.
Briefing mediapersons here, Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi said the accused Bikramaditya was apprehended by a special squad and Mancheswar Police from a house in Mancheswar area.
He said after the murder of Mohanty, the accused had escaped to Pune where he was working as a gym trainer.
Revealing about the arrest of Jena, the CP said the accused was in contact with his family while in Pune. He said police got details about him on the basis of the statement of the four accused who were arrested earlier.
The Police Commissioner said the murder was the fallout of the previous enmity.
“The prime accused in the case is Sushil Jena who had an enmity with Sumanta after he was rusticated from Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya on his recommendation. To take revenge, Sushil and his four associates Manas Ranjan Vedanta, Sushil Samantray, Subhakant Jena and Bikramaditya Jena killed Sumanta and left the body inside his car on the Palasuni-Chakeisiani road,” he added.
Commissionerate Police had launched a special drive to nab absconding accused in old cases. They have been successful in arresting Biban Biswal in the Anjana Mishra gang rape case after 22 years and now with the arrest of fifth accused in Sumanta murder, they have scripted another success while instilling fear among the absconding criminals.
