Puri: The logs for the construction of the three chariots of the sibling deities of Jagannath temple for the ensuing Rath Yatra arrived in Puri in the fifth phase from Nayagarh Forest Range on Saturday.
The chief supervisor of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Sudarshan Mekap, said a total of 42 logs have arrived at Ratha Khala in two trucks. The logs include 5 Asana logs (20 feet in length), 11 Dhaura logs (12 feet in length) and 26 Dhaura logs (20 feet in length).
Mekap said 865 logs are required for constructing the three chariots and the temple administration has received 175 logs so far. The temple administration has a stock of 193 logs, he added.
He said 406 logs are required for Ratha Khala while 206 logs will be sent for slicing to the saw mill at Khapuria in Cuttack. “The construction of the chariots will begin on Akshaya Tritiya on April 26,” he informed.
