Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Men’s World Cup Hockey championship next January, the Kalinga Stadium’s hockey field has received a major boost.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has granted the Kalinga Hockey Stadium Pitch 1 the FIH Category 2 field certificate, based on its construction, performance and player welfare requirements.
The Kalinga Stadium has hosted an array of prestigious international hockey tournaments in the last 8 years.
The first big event was the Champions Trophy in 2014, followed by Hockey World League (2016-17) and World Cup in 2018.
Among other marquee hockey meets hosted by Kalinga Stadium were men’s and women’s Olympic Qualifiers and the Junior Men’s World Cup last year.
