Final Voter List Of Bihar Released Ahead Of Assembly Polls; Will There Be Any Further Controversy?

Bihar final electoral roll

Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the final voter list of Bihar ahead of the Assembly polls due in November.

The revised list has been published after taking into account all the claims and objections to the draft list following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

“In the light of Special Intensive Revision, the final electoral roll has been published on 30.09.2025. People can look up their names by clicking on the link voters.eci.gov.in,” the poll panel announced through a post on social media.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar said that physical copies of the roll will be distributed to all District Election Officers, who serve as District Magistrates.

The final roll will also be shared with all recognised national and state political parties.

The SIR exercise sparked a major controversy, as the Opposition accused the ECI of tampering with the electoral roll to favour the BJP.

Several petitions were filed in Supreme Court seeking to halt the SIR process. The top court did not interfere with the SIR exercise, but clarified that even after the final list is published, the process can still be cancelled if any misconduct is found.

The Supreme Court emphasised that releasing the list does not protect it from legal challenges.

The final hearing on the SIR process is scheduled for October 7.

The current term of the 243-member Bihar Assembly expires on November 22, so the election should be completed by the second week of November 2025.

According to reports, ECI might wait for the final Supreme Court hearing before announcing dates for Bihar polls.

An ECI team will visit Patna on October 4 and 5 to assess readiness for the upcoming elections.
