Find Out Why Odisha Is Rejoicing After India Rugby Team’s Victory In Manila

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reasons to celebrate after the Indian women’s rugby team created history on Saturday in Manila by registering its first ever international victory against Singapore.

The rugby team comprised seven players from Odisha — Hupi Majhi, Laxmipriya Sahu, Meerarani Hembram, Subhalaxmi Barik, Sumitra Nayak, Parbati Kisku and Rajani Sabar.

Sumitra, in fact, emerged as the star of the match by scoring a penalty in the dying minutes. India won the game 21-19.

The Indian squad is currently participating in the Asia Rugby Women’s Championship in Philippines.

The winner of this championship will qualify for the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand.

The current team was in Bhubaneswar between June 2-16 for the training camp.
