Mumbai: Ranveer Singh’s spy-thriller sequel ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has landed in legal trouble for allegedly disrespecting the sacred Sikh verse Gurbani and hurting religious sentiments of the community.
Shiv Sena (Shinde) leader Gurjyot Singh Keer, who is president of ‘Sikhs in Maharashtra’, filed an FIR at Mulund police station against the ‘Dhurandhar 2’ makers and sought an apology.
The FIR alleges involvement of actors R. Madhavan, Ranveer and director Aditya Dhar in the allegedly offensive sequence which shows Madhavan’s character smoking a cigarette while reciting the sacred verse from Guru Gobind Singh Saab’s Dasam Granth.
Sharing a detailed statement with a video outlining his grievance, Gurjyot posted on Instagram: “I strongly condemn the blatant disrespect shown towards Gurbani by the makers of Dhurandhar 2. Portraying a character @actormaddy talking to @ranveersingh while smoking a cigarette and reciting sacred Gurbani ‘Siraso pehchaniye jo Lade Deen ke Heth’ is deeply hurtful and unacceptable. Gurbani is not mere dialogue — it is divine, sacred, and holds immense spiritual significance for the Sikh community. Such irresponsible depiction reflects ignorance and a lack of sensitivity towards our faith. I urge the entire Sikh community to stand united and peacefully protest this insult. Show black flags to those responsible — Aditya Dhar, R. Madhavan, and Ranveer Singh — wherever they appear, if they fail to issue a sincere apology to the SGPC and the Sikh community. Respect every faith. This is not creativity — this is disrespect.”
“Apologise immediately, or history has shown what the Sikh community is capable of,” Gurjyot added.
He also urged the Sikh community to stage peaceful protests and display black flags to Dhar, Madhavan, and Ranveer if they fail to issue a sincere apology to the Sikh community.
The ‘Dhurandhar 2’ team is yet to issue a response to the FIR.
