Bhubaneswar: Efforts are on by the two fire brigade teams to douse the fire that hit a dumping yard near Daruthenga village in the vicinity of Nandankanan zoo on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar late in the afternoon on Wednesday.
Reports said that the fire struck a huge dump yard and began to spread. The locals panicked and informed authorities of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), following which two fire brigade teams rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.
Since the fire has assumed alarming proportions, there is every possibility that it might spread to the nearby Chandaka Sanctuary. Keeping this in view, efforts are on to contain the fire from spreading to the nearby areas at the earliest.
The people of Daruthenga village have been vehemently opposing the dumping of city garbage near their village.
