Rourkela: Properties worth over lakhs were gutted after fire broke out inside two departments of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district late on Tuesday night.
According to reports, some students of the institute noticed thick smoke billowing out of the Works and Purchase departments of the institute in the late night and informed the authorities.
Following information, two Fire brigade teams rushed to the institute and doused the fire within an hour.
Several electronic equipments including computers and printers and important documents have been gutted.
Fire Services personnel suspect a short-circuit could be the cause of the fire.
While the NIT authorities are yet to release a statement on the fire mishap, sources said the director of the institute Prof Animesh Biswas has formed a 7-member fact-finding team to probe into the incident.
