Bhubaneswar: A fire broke out in a private women’s hostel in Satyavihar area of Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The fire was noticed by local residents who raised an alarm. The fire reportedly spread rapidly, creating panic among families living in the surrounding area. Locals immediately informed the Fire Services Department.
A team of firefighters rushed to the site after receiving the information. The team took quick action and brought the fire under control before it could spread further or cause additional damage. The fire was reportedly extinguished while it was still confined to a single room.
While no one was reported to have been injured in the incident, the fire caused considerable damage to several articles in the room. Personal belongings of the students and some furniture were gutted in the blaze. The extent of the property loss is yet to be ascertained.
The incident occurred when a girl student had gone to the temple after lighting a diya in her room.
While the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, reports said a student had lit a lamp (diya) and went out. The fire was suspected to have been sparked by the diya. Further details are awaited.
