Baripada: A fire broke out in the technical room of the Red Cross Blood Bank here on Friday morning.
According to sources, the employees of the blood bank noticed the fire around 7 am. Three fire engines had to be engaged to douse the flames.
Blood bank in-charge Dr Soumya Ranjan Nayak equipment worth Rs 6 lakh were gutted and efforts are on to normalise the situation. “Today, blood will be supplied to only those suffering from serious ailments,” he added.
Though the cause of the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is suspected to be the reason, sources added.
