New Delhi: A minor fire broke out at Uphaar Cinema here in the early hours of Sunday and five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. No casualties have been reported till now.
The fire, which was reported around 4.45 am, affected the theatre’s balcony and a floor. The seats, furniture and rubbish in the cinema hall had caught fire, PTI quoted Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg as saying.
“The fire was doused within two hours by 7.15 am. There was no casualty or injuries,” a fire department official told the Indian Express.
Uphaar Cinema Hall in South Delhi’s Green Park is closed since June 13, 1997, when a deadly fire, halfway through the screening of ‘Border’, killed 59 people.
