Berhampur: After remaining closed for more than a month due to a fire incident, the operation theatre (OT) in Super Speciality Block of MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Odisha’s Berhampur city became operational on Thursday.
The outdoor services as well as surgery in Urology, Nurology and Plastic Surgery departments located in the 5th floor of the Super Speciality Block had been closed after fire broke out on August 26. The medical authorities had formed a high-level committee to probe into the fire incident and several instances of collapse of false ceiling in these departments.
The committee, in its report, pointed out that poor quality of construction was responsible for collapse of the false ceilings. Accordingly, the medical authorities carried out necessary repair in all three departments, said dean of medical college Prof Abanikant Mishra.
He further said the repair work has been completed and precautionary measures strengthened as per the instructions of the Fire department. Similarly, the operation theatre of Urology department has been repaired and its equipment, which were damaged in the fire incident, have been replaced. Now both the hospital services and operation theatre are fully operational, he added.
