Angul: In a tragic incident, a mother and her two sons sustained serious burn injuries in a fire mishap at Shabalabhanga village in Angul district late on Sunday.
The victims have been identified as Bachani Behera and their two minor sons, Abhimanyu and Rahul.
According to sources, the trio sustained 80 per cent burns in the mishap while took place while they were sleeping in their house. Neighbours rushed to help on hearing screams and rushed them to Angul district headquarters hospital. They were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
The exact reason for the mishap is yet to be ascertained.
While Bachani claimed that the house was set afire in an attempt to kill them, her husband Pabitra Behera termed it as an self-immolation bid.
The woman’s family thrashed him, suspecting his involvement in the mishap. The families of Bachani and Pabitra also had a fight over this in the hospital.
The police are investigating the matter.
