“Notices were served to the hotel authorities earlier, asking them to install adequate fire safety and prevention equipment as the basement of the hotel was prone to fire mishaps. But the authorities have failed to respond”, a fire official informed.
On February 12, two halls of New Marrion Hotel on Janpath here were also sealed during a fire safety audit as there were no comprehensive fire safety measures in these halls. Besides, marriage and functions were held in both the halls in violation of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (Planning and Building Standards) Regulations, 2008.
Similar raids were also conducted at 25 other shopping malls, jewellery stores and hotels by 13 different teams on the same day to check adherence to Odisha Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Rules, 2017.
