Malkangiri: Podia Fire personnel and Malkangiri fire stations have rescued at least 45 persons including children stranded in an area near Saberi River at Bojaguda here on Monday.
The fire personnel moved rapidly to locate people in distress at the Podia block of the district, which was the most affected area.
Notably, the district was reeled under inundation as the depression-induced rain pounded the district, sending rivers in spate and leaving communication snapped. The road connectivity was totally cut off as floodwater overtopped the bridges in many places. Several villages were marooned while telecommunication was also severely affected.
Taking to twitter, Fire Services DG Satyajit Mohanty tweeted, “Appreciate the rescue & evacuation operations undertaken by Fire Service personnel of Podia & Malkanagiri FSs from flood-affected areas of Bojaguda under Podia Block.”
