Bhubaneswar: Following the death of 23 students in a fire at a coaching centre in Surat, Gujarat on May 24, Odisha Fire Services personnel have conducted simultaneous raids on several private coaching centres in the state to check their fire safety measures.
Director General of Fire Services, BK Sharma informed that the raids on coaching centres in Jeypore, Bhawanipatna, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Angul and Bhadrak were simultaneously carried out by 49 Fire Services personnel.
Appropriate action would be taken against the owners of the coaching centres that are found guilty of violating safety measures and rules, he added.
Sharma said during the raids, the Fire Service personnel also provided fire-safety tips to the students.
The Fire Services department had earlier raided several coaching centres in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Berhampur and other places in the state.
