Khurda: Police seized huge amount of firecrackers worth around Rs 12 lakh fr0m a village in Odisha’s Khurda district on Saturday.
As per reports, the police conducted a raid on Kantabada village under Begunia police limits in the district following reliable information about illegal stock of firecrackers. During the raid, they seized the firecrackers loaded on two mini-trucks and 25 kg of gunpowder from a godown.
The police have also detained two persons, identified as Biswanatha Mohapatra and Prasanna Mohapatra of the village. They were present in the godown during the raid but could not produce valid document ins support of the firecrackers or licence to produce those.
The accused persons had kept the gunpowder to produce firecrackers to be sold in coming Diwali while the seized firecrackers were meant to be supplied outside, the sources said.
The bomb disposal squad has been deputed in the village to destroy the seized firecrackers. The police have started investigation to trace the source of procurement of firecrackers and involvement of others.
