Bhubaneswar: A driver allegedly set his employers’ car and bike on fire in a fit of rage after being thrown out of job in Krishna Garden Phase II of Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar.
The incident was recorded on CCTV camera which helped the Khandagiri Police nab the accused. The accused, identified as Abdul Hakim, is a resident of Ruchika Market Housing Colony in Baramunda.
Hakim drove the car of Jyotsna Mohanty and Ajit Kumar Nayak who live in Krishna Garden Phase II. He was reportedly sacked from his job last year by the couple for not being punctual at work.
Nayak told media that the driver had been driving their car for the last four years but they had to fire him because he was always in an inebriated state and did not drive properly. “He would switch off his phone and would not respond to calls. When my wife used to call him in the evening to bring her back from the college where she works, he wouldn’t respond. So we had to ask him to leave.”
Hakim had allegedly threatened Mohanty that if he was not taken back to work within seven days, he would set the car on fire. Earlier, he had threatened that if someone else is appointed in his place, he would kill the person.
