Sambalpur: A doctor of Odisha’s Sambalpur district reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 here on Thursday morning.
District Chief Medical Officer (CDMO) Shashi Bhushan Patel informed that the doctor posted at ESI Hospital in Hirakud Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) limits, died while undergoing treatment. The deceased was a native of Sanpada in Sambalpur.
The CDMO further said that the doctor fell ill last month and his swab samples later tested positive for the deadly virus. He was shifted to the COVID Hospital in Sambalpur on August 2.
Confirming the same, Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Sambalpur, SN Dash told TNIE that the doctor was shifted to the ICU ward on the same day.
The 42-year-old doctor had underlying health conditions, including asthma and kidney ailments, according to the Health Department.
His last rites will be performed at Rajghat in Sambalpur in the presence of family members in accordnce with government guideline.
This is said to be the first medical casualty to the deadly coronavirus in Odisha.
