Cuttack: Here is some good news for patients and their attendants visiting Acharya Harihar Postgraduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC) here. The first rest shed was opened on Monday.
The rest shed is among the three shelters being constructed to provide shade to the visitors to AHPGIC. According to reports, the second rest shed will be opened on Tuesday and the third within a week.
Following reports of patients and their attendants visiting the hospital facing problems, particularly due to scorching heat, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra had directed for immediate construction of rest sheds besides ensuring provision of essentials like lights, fans and drinking water at the rest sheds.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das had also taken note of the plight of visitors and directed for early construct shades for the attendants on the premises and ensure supply of water, ORS and other facilities.
Director of AHPGIC Dr Latendu Sarangi told mediapersons that about 50 patients have taken shelter in the first rest shed on Monday. Once, the two other shelters become functional around 150 patients and their attendants can take shelter, he added.
An Aahar Centre, located in close proximity, is also being helpful for patients and their attendants, he added.
Patients visiting the hospital for radiation treatment and their attendants were taking rest on the hospital’s verandah or in the open under the scorching sun.
