New Delhi: Dwarka, an ancient city believed to be lost under the sea is waiting to be explored. And the Gujarat government is making it possible. It is all set to introduce a submarine service for tourists in the state, to help them explore the marine life there. The city holds cultural significance as the ‘city of the Hindu God Lord Krishna.’
The state government has signed a memorandum with Mazgaon Dock shipbuilders for the project, according to India Today.
This will be the first underwater tourism facility in India through a submarine. As per the current plan, the government aims to operationalise the project before Diwali in October 2024.
As per the project, tourists will be taken 100 meters below the sea in a submarine to see underwater marine life. Each submarine will carry 24 tourists, and the vessel will be led by two experienced pilots and a professional crew. The vessel will be designed to provide a window view for all passengers, the report added.
It is a “different project” in nature, which has the potential to bring a significant boost in tourism to the city, Saurabh Pardhi, Managing Director of Gujarat Tourism told India Today.
Tourists will be taken to the sea near Dwarka by submarine, where they will comfortably see the underwater marine life. The main objective of the project is to promote tourism in Gujarat and provide more facilities for tourists visiting religious places, Pardhi was quoted as saying, adding that passenger safety will be fully taken care of.
