Malkangiri: A fisherman died while his two companions swam ashore after a boat carrying them capsized in the Balimela reservoir in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
The deceased fisherman was identified as Krupa Benia of Dyke-3 village in Chitrakonda area of the district. Sources said Krupa and two others – Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak – had been on a fishing mission in a country boat on Wednesday evening when the country boat capsize. While Krupa went missing, the other two managed to reach the shore safely.
The Fire Services personnel, who had launched a search operation, fished out the body of Krupa on Thursday. The search operation launched by the locals and Fire Services personnel, had been suspended during the night. When the operation resumed this morning, the body of Krupa was recovered.
While returning after fishing near Singaram, the three were caught in a gale accompanied by rainfall. Consequently, the boat capsized.
