Fisherman Killed While Exploding Dynamite To Catch Fish In Odisha’s Deogarh

Deogarh: A fisherman was killed and two other escaped while exploding a dynamite to catch fish in a reservoir in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Tuesday.

According to police sources, three fishermen had gone to Rengali reservoir near Bhulkabahal village under Kundeigola police station in the district in a country boat to catch fish. They have been using dynamites instead nets to catch fish for some time.

As per their practice, they set fire to a dynamite and threw it into the reservoir. But the dynamite exploded near the boat before hitting the water. As a result, one of them died of critical injuries sustained in the explosion on the spot.

Two other fishermen escaped without injuries. The deceased was identified as Khyamanidhi Dhibar of Asananali village under Deograh police limits.

On being informed, Fire services personnel went to the spot and recovered Khyamanidhi’s body from the dam. A police team also went there and sent the body for post-mortem. They have detained the two fishermen for questioning and registered case of unnatural death.
