Angul: A fisherman netted a python while fishing in a reservoir in Odisha’s Angul district.

According to sources, the fishermen of a village near Derjang irrigation project had cast their nets in the reservoir to catch fish as per their regular practice. On Saturday, when a fisherman went to check the nets, he found a snake trapped inside. He rushed back to the village and informed other villagers.

They informed a known snake catcher of the area, Aditya Behera, about the incident. Aditya went to the spot and identified the snake as a python. He carefully cut through the nets and released the snake.

After rescuing the python, Aditya checked whether it had sustained any injuries. The snake, which was found to be 5 ft in length, was in good health, he said adding that it might have got trapped in the net while coming for hunting.

Later, he informed the Forest officials and with their help, released the snake in a natural habitation on Mandargiri hill.
