Bhubaneswar: Members of fishermen community staged a protest at Lower PMG Square in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday over 6-point charter of demands.
According to sources, the agitators came from Paradip in buses last night and resorted to sloganeering holding flags under the banner of Odisha Fishermen Association from early this morning.
Diesel subsidy and inclusion of fishermen families in Public Distribution System (PDS) and other social security schemes during fishing bans are some the demands of the agitators. “Even after repeated requests, the Odisha government is not paying heed to our woes. We will continue the protest till our demands are fulfilled,” said a protestor.
Another protester stressed the need for river mouth dredging to prevent accidents.
