Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Police, on Tuesday, arrested five more persons in connection with the double murder case of Thelkopada in Sambalpur district. With this, the total number of arrests has gone up to seven, Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said.

On Monday, the police had arrested two persons including the prime accused, identified as Pandab Mukhi.

According to information, one Sujit Nag was chased and allegedly hacked by a group led by Pandab Mukhi, a history-sheeter, near Laxmi Talkies Chhack on Monday morning over past enmity. Nag was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition, but the doctors pronounced him as ‘brought dead’.

Soon after his death, violence struck Thelkopada as Sujit’s supporters barged into the house of Pandab and reportedly set it on fire. They dragged Pandab’s younger brother Shankar and lynched him. He died on the spot. They also severely thrashed another rival gang group member.

Following the incident, five platoons of police force were deployed at the spot to maintain law and order in the area.
