Nuapada/ Berhampur: As many as five children were injured in two separate incidents of mobile phone blast in Nuapada and Ganjam districts on Monday.
In Nuapada, a Class VIII student, identified as Krutibas Majhi, suffered critical injuries when his mobile phone exploded during charging.
According to locals, the incident took place at Kalimati village under Komana block of when the boy was talking over phone while it was being charged. He suffered serious injuries in his right eye and left hand.
The boy was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors found that he had lost his eyesight. Since no specialized treatment for eye is available in the hospital, he may be referred to VIMSAR in Burla or SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment, hospital sources said.
Similarly, four children were injured when the battery of a smartphone exploded at Lunguri village in Ganjam district. They were admitted to Chhatrapur hospital in critical condition.
The mishap occurred when the children were attempting to connect the battery of the phone to a LED light, sources said.
