Sundergarh: Police on Monday recovered bodies of five members of a family from a house located at Kulda area under Hemgiri police limits in Sundrgarh district.
The deceased were identified as Ramnarayan Prasad Sharma, his wife Mili, two daughters Sanju and Anju and son Rabindra.
After being informed by some locals, who noticed foul smell emanating from a closed house at MCL staff colony quarters, a police team led by Sundergarh SP Pinak Mishra reached the spot and found the bodies after breaking open the locked house.
Sharma, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was working as a labour contractor in the coal mine at Basundhara.
According to his neighbours, they had seen Sharma and his family members last Friday. Investigation is on to ascertain the reason behind the deaths, police sources said.
