Five Detained After Knife Attack On Police Personnel Inside Cuttack’s OMP 6th Battalion

Cuttack: Five youths, including a woman, have been detained for an alleged attack on police personnel inside the premises of Odisha Armed Police (OMP) 6th Battalion in Odisha’s Cuttack.

The detained individuals are set to be produced before a local court on Thursday.

According to sources, the confrontation began on Wednesday night near a pond within the battalion campus, which houses residential quarters for police staff. A patrolling team spotted a young man and woman sitting in the area and asked them to leave since

it was a restricted residential zone. The man reportedly became agitated, verbally abused the officers, and refused to vacate the spot. He then called three of his friends, who arrived at the scene and joined in the altercation. The situation quickly escalated into violence, with the group allegedly attacking the police personnel with knives.

Three officers — an Armed Sub-Inspector (SI), another SI, and a Home Guard driver — sustained injuries in the assault. They were rushed to the Trauma Care unit at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Chauliaganj police rushed to the spot on getting information, zeroed in on the five individuals following an investigation and detained them.

Sources indicate that senior officials, including the OSAP IG, have questioned the accused. Police are also probing how the outsiders managed to gain entry into the OMP 6th Battalion premises, a secured area with staff quarters.
