Puri: Five persons were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after the SUV in which they were travelling overturned and fell into a canal at Bhailipur near Sukal on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as K Krishna (50), Jagdish (40), K Yamabati (40), Abnan (7) and Yamabati (5).
Those injured were rushed to Chandanpur hospital for treatment.
The victims, hailing from Lalkamanga under Jarada police limits near Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border, were heading towards Puri for immersing ashes when the driver of the ill-fated vehicle lost control over the vehicle. Following this, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the water body.
However, the driver of the four-wheeler fled the spot soon after the accident.
