Bhubaneswar: The number of Odisha MLAs afflicted with COVID-19 went up to 19 on Tuesday after five more legislators tested positive for the virus. Of the five MLAs, two are from the BJP and three from the BJD.
According to sources, 25 MLAs had undergone a COVID-19 test at the State Assembly premises on Monday. During the test, five MLAs tested positive.
The five legislators are Jayanta Kumar Sarangi (Puri) and Budhan Murmu (Saraskana) of the BJP and Angada Kanhar (Phulbani), Saroj Kumar Meher (Patnagarh) and Bikram Panda (Berhampur) of the BJD.
Earlier, 14 MLAs tested positive for the virus during a test conducted on Sunday.
As announced by the Odisha Assembly speaker Surjya Narayan Patro, the legislators tested positive will not be allowed to attend the monsoon session of the House which begins on Tuesday.
