Jajpur: Drivers of five trucks engaged in the transportation of sand from Lingeswar ghat under Panikoili police limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district had a providential escape after water was released from the check dam to the river on Saturday morning.
According to reports, the trucks had gone to the Baitarani river bed to upload sand at Akhuapada Balighat area near Lingeswar ghat when the water from the check dam was released. Fortunately, the drivers managed to run away to the river bank in time.
But the trucks remained stuck in surging water of the river.
Notably, the district administration has banned the lifting of sand from the Lingeswar Ghat on the order of the Supreme Court.
Contacted, IIC of Panikoili Police Station Ajaya Jena said he has no information about the incident.
