Rourkela: Five women labourers died and seven others, including another woman, were seriously injured after a speeding car jumped the divider and hit an SUV on the opposite side of the Biju Expressway near Ramabahal Chhak in Rajgangpur in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Wednesday.
According to reports, a speeding Honda City car (OD-16-F-4344) moving towards Sundargarh from Rourkela jumped the road divider and collided with a Scorpio SUV coming from the opposite side of the road. After hitting the SUV, the car ran over five women labourers, killing two of them on the spot. Besides, three persons in the car and three others in the SUV were also seriously injured.
The incident took place around 10 am.
Following information, police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH), where three women labourers later succumbed to their injuries. The five women labourers were engaged by the L&T company in road construction work, police said.
The condition of the six injured persons is stated to be critical, hospital sources said.
