Bhubaneswar: The flight services at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar will remain suspended for 8 hours at night from October 1.
Prasanna Pradhan, director, BPIA, in a release on Thursday, said the work of runway recarpeting in the airport will be taken up from October 1. The repair of the runway is normally performed after rainy season in dry weather as lack of moisture in the atmosphere helps bonding of the materials used in the work, he added.
Besides recarpeting, instrument landing system (ILS) category II lighting will be taken up along the runway during the period. A budget of Rs 72 crore has been sanctioned for recarpeting of the runway and Rs 19 crore for lighting facilities, Pradhan said.
In order to facilitate the works, the flight services in the airport will be interrupted for 8 hours at night from 10 pm to 6 am or 11 pm to 7 am, the director added.
