Bengaluru: Flipkart on Tuesday announced that it will slowly convert its entire delivery fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, thereby becoming the first e-commerce company in India to do so.
It will install charging infrastructure at 1,400 supply chain premises, and incentivise delivery executives for switching to EVs.
Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group, said, “As a homegrown company, we always pride ourselves in making ecommerce more inclusive, progressive and impactful for all our stakeholders, which also includes communities and the planet.”
The Indian government has set a goal of achieving 30 per cent electric mobility by 2030. The Delhi government recently announced subsidies for electric two-wheeler and car purchases up to ₹30,000 and ₹1.5 lakh respectively.
Wipro, State Bank of India (SBI) and BSES Yamuna Power too have committed to transforming their fleet into EVs through a EV100 initiative from The Climate Group. The Group has stated that corporate and leasing fleet will see more than 2.5 million zero-emission vehicles by 2030 that will save 42 million metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent to the annual emissions of 11 coal power plants.
