Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday sounded flood alert in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.
Briefing the media, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said the Baitarani has been flowing above the danger mark at Rajghat in Anandpur block in Keonjhar and Akhuapada in Bhadrak district following heavy rainfall in the upper catchments.
“Considering the rise in the water level of the river, low-lying areas of Jajpur and Bhadrak district might get flooded by tomorrow morning,” he said.
The SRC said that one unit each of the NDRF and ODRAF was sent to Bhadrak this afternoon while another unit each of the NDRF and ODRAF would be sent to Jajpur district later in the day to tacking the flood situation.
Referring to the rainfall recorded in Odisha in the last 24 hours, Jena said Kendrapada received the highest rainfall of 168 mm. At the block level, Marshaghai block in Kendrapada district witnessed the highest rainfall of 234 mm.
Besides, four blocks have recorded 200 mm, 92 blocks more than 100 mm and 192 blocks more than 50 mm rainfall.
Among the districts, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj have recorded more rainfall while Malkangiri district had the lowest of 7.1 mm.
The SRC also informed about the death of a woman at Sukuli block in Mayurbhanj district in a wall collapse last night.
