Balasore: Continuous rainfall for few days led to the rise in water level of the Jalaka river here on Wednesday. Water level rose to 6.43 metres, well above the danger mark of 5.5 metres.
Low lying areas and farms in places like Sanakhudi, Baharda, Srirampur area in Basta block were also inundated.
It may be recalled that road communication in some parts of Banki block in Cuttack district was disrupted by the floodwater of Mahanadi on Tuesday.
The communication from Banki to Talabasta and Balipada panchayats was snapped as the floodwater was flowing at a height of 4 feet on the road. Hundreds of acres of paddy and vegetable fields were submerged.
