Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the grim flood situation in Malkangiri district following incessant heavy rainfall for the last 24 hours, the collector on Saturday announced closure of all schools for two days.
“Since road communication in most parts of the district has been disrupted due to overflowing floodwaters, the district administration has declared two-day holiday for all schools,” collector Manish Agarwal told mediapersons here.
According to sources, road communication between Malkangiri and Jeypore was disrupted after Pangama bridge came under water following high flood in Poteru-Pangama river.
Besides, road communication between Malkangiri and Vizianagaram on NH-326 has also been affected with floodwater of Saberi river flowing at a height of 5 feet on a bridge at Kounkonda. The water level of the river is rising due to the entry of the backwater of the Godavari from the Polavaram dam project area in Andhra Pradesh.
Similar disruption was seen from Malkangiri to Kalimela, Motu and Balimela due to overflowing of floodwater on the road at MV-37 and Korukonda villages, the sources added.
