In Balasore district, more than 10,000 hectares of paddy fields in 15 villages of Baliapal block were submerged after high sea tide entered the Subarnarekha river on Tuesday.
Following the incident, the state government asked the district collector to stay on alert to meet any eventuality.
As predicted by the local Met office here, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash most parts of North Odisha for three days from July 21. There is a possibility of flood in Budhabalang, Subarnarekha, Brahmani, Baitarani and Mahanadi rivers with heavy downpour in the upper catchment areas of these rivers.
