Malkangiri: Sudden rise in the water level of river Godavari in Telangana has triggered a flood situation in the areas along two contributory rivers in the district.
The water level of Godavari at Bhadrachalam in Telangana crossed the danger mark due to heavy rain in upper catchment areas on Saturday. As the water was flowing 43 feet above the danger level, the Bhadrachalam dam authorities opened 15 sluice gates to release the floodwater while the administration evacuated the people from the villages in the low-lying areas.
Though there has been no heavy rainfall in Malkangiri district, the flood situation is imminent in Motu block due to the rise in the water level of Sileru and Saveri rivers, the contributories to Godavari.
Official sources said the district administration has taken necessary measures against the flood threat in Motu.
