Beijing: At least 20 people were killed and 331 others injured in extreme weather-related incidents across China in the last 24 hours, authorities said on Tuesday.
Besides flooding, tornadoes, thunderstorms, high-velocity gales and landslides were reported, resulting in heavy casualties.
Such was the scale of devastation President Xi Jinping called for all-out efforts to for emergency rescue, disaster relief and treatment of the injured, Xinhua news agency reported.
He also stressed on the need to strengthen monitoring, early warning, emergency preparedness and response so that people’s lives and property could be safeguarded amid Typhoon Maysak which hit Guangxi Zhuang.

In Gansu Province, 33 people were buried beneath the debris following a landslide. Rescuers managed to pull out 21 of them, but 5 persons died while receiving treatment. The remaining 12 people are still untraced.
Hubei Province was hit by tornadoes, thunderstorms and high-velocity gales, causing 11 deaths, while one person was missing, according to provincial emergency management authorities.
In Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 4 people were killed and 8 others missing after record-breaking rainfall caused floods.

Around 54,460 were evacuated and 40,000 more affected because of torrential rains triggered by Typhoon Maysak. At least 22 buildings were destroyed and another 4,855 damaged, Xinhua said.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing on a war footing in affected areas.
