Bhubaneswar: A joint squad of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Monday began the process to seal Kalyan Mandaps for alleged violation of the guidelines.
Talking to the media here, a senior BDA official said 80 of 94 Kalyan Mandaps found to be flouting norms will be sealed in a phased manner. “We have decided to seal 16 Kalyan Mandaps today,” he added.
He said that that the BMC commissioner has directed the three zonal commissioners to prepare and submit a list of the sealed Kalyan Mandaps and inform about the time and date to seal the rest.
Notably, the BMC had served show-cause notice to the owners of 94 Kalyan Mandaps for constructing the building without the plan approval from the BDA, not depositing the holding tax and obtaining the trading licence. It had also asked them to get their documents ready by January 31. The owners of only 14 Kalyan Mandaps have obtained the necessary clearance, sources said.
