Bhubaneswar: Digitisation of safety measures by mining companies in Odisha and the need to ensure the safety of skilled manpower is the need of the hour. These aspects were stressed upon on the concluding day of the 37th Metalliferous Mining Safety Week at the Rail Auditorium recently. Held under the aegis of Bhubaneswar Region of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), it was hosted by Utkal Alumina International Ltd.
The DGMS of Dhanbad, R. Subramanian, who was the chief guest said that Safety Management Plan should be converted to Systematic Management Plan. He appealed all the mining companies to adopt one or two districts as a pilot study for imbibing the spirit of mining safety in all stages of their operation.
In his deliberation, Chairman Utkal Alumina International Limited S K Mishra hoped that the industries will get skilled manpower owing to the help received from skill development program. “There will be no shortage of skilled manpower in near future,” Mishra said.
MD of OMC, Vineel Krishna said, “Odisha has richness of mines and minerals. Many mines will be opened and expanded in the state. Mines auction is going on and more exploration process is being conducted here. Utilisation of technologies and training modules may help to minimise human errors in the mining sector.”
