Watch: Folk Dance By Odisha Students Finds Place In Unicef’s Music Video

Rayagada: Tribal folk dance by students of Bhakurguda Ashram in Odisha’s Rayagada has found a place in Unicef’s music video titled ‘Wake Up’, which the United Nations agency has shared on its social media handle.

The music video was released on the New Year day to mark Unicef’s 70th anniversary in the country.

According to sources, the three-minute video was prepared to encourage and inspire youths. The lyrics of the song is a mix of Hindi and English and composed by Grammy award winner Rickey Kej.

The Unicef had collected the videos on children’s performance from across the country through crowd-sourcing activity and at least 40 entries were accessed by the composer to create the song, the sources added.

It emphasises on child rights and empowering children and the Unicef’s contribution to the white revolution and immunisation since its journey in the country, beginning 1949.

The students from Rayagada, who have performed in the video, had won the first prize at the Sargiful programme.

Notably, Bhakurguda Ashram is a residential school for students belonging to the scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) category.. This school with classes from I to VIII has been able create an identity of its own for its unique teaching style and the skill of the students.

Earlier, the school was awarded for cleanliness at the state level.

Unicef’s Odisha Chief Monica Nelson had visited the school before the documentation and was spellbound after seeing the performances of students.

“We are very happy to have got a chance to perform on an international platform,” said the students.

“It is a proud moment for us as the performance of our students is a part of the Unicef’s music video focussing on providing a better world for children,” said headmaster of the school Gagan Chandra Sahu.
