Rayagada: Odisha’s Rayagada district women’s hockey team on Tuesday left for participating in HAO Senior Women Hockey Championships 2022 to be played in Bhubaneswar.
It is for the first time that a women’s hockey team of Rayagada will participate in a state-level tournament since the formation of the district around 30 years back. All the players of the team are students of Rayagada Women’s College. They had undergone rigorous training for more than a month on the college ground.
Additional district collector Somnath Pradhan met the players in his office on Tuesday and wished them for their success in the Championships.
The team will meet Malkangiri in their first encounter on Thursday. While Namita Benia is the captain of the team, Anuradha Jilakara is the vice-captain and Sunil Mahanta is the coach.
