The Mahindra and Ford joint venture in which Mahindra will own 51 per cent will have technology sharing as well as co-branding of products. One of the first products of this collaboration will be the replacement of Ford’s EcoBoost engine with Mahindra’s 1.2-litre T-GDI petrol engine in Ecosport, due to be launched in the first quarter of 2021.
The engine is a turbocharged direct injection petrol motor that produces 130bhp and 230Nm of torque.
Ford is likely to bring a dual-clutch automatic option with this engine.
This engine will be fitted in the Mahindra XUV300 in April before Ecosport gets it.
