Bhubaneswar: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized 400 packets of foreign brand cigarettes at Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip off, the DRI officials detained two passengers from Malaysia coming by Air Asia flight AK 31 for smuggling the cigarettes of Marlboro brands in their checked in baggage. DRI officials said 80,000 cigarette sticks were confiscated and they were worth Rs 12 lakh.
The seized cigarette packets also did not contain the prescribed statutory and pictorial warnings printed/affixed on them.
DRI did not identify the passengers and said they were being interrogated.
